- What's that?
-It's stupid. I collect found playing cards. They're all over the city.
-Really? I never noticed.
-Well, you will now. That's how it works. I'm hoping to get a full deck. Insert the obvious joke here. And I didn't have a two of hearts. It's a good day."
I don't remember if I had this habit before falling in love with Jack Berger in Sex and the city (and then hating his guts, for being the obvious jerk), or after. But it stuck, much like the post-it he used to dump Carrie.
Every now and then, I notice one on the dirty streets of the city. Looking at my experiences from the past few days (found coin, found metro cards), maybe I should really consider to stop picking up other people's trash (because hey, germs), but still. That' s not the point. Today I came across this one:
And I find it to be particularly funny. Tarot afficionados will get me.
8 of cups is the card of ending cycles. It is one of the three tarot cards that symbolizes going on a new path.
It's usually related to a breakup - whether it regards a job, a friendship, a relationship or beliefs that no longer serve us. It shows us that we are letting go of a familiar environment, of the people we cared about most, in order to follow an uncertain future.
8 of cups does not mean that we are banished, but that we deliberately choose to leave those things and people behind us. The card is said to carry a double burden - we have to let go of something we love deeply and in addition to that, we have no idea what awaits.
When referring to the consciousness level, 8 of cups announces a stage of deep understanding, in which we become aware that we have to give up certain preferences, attitudes towards life or opinions that we got attached to.
It represents getting older and it expresses our experience related to Letting Go, as described by the Zen philosophy.
I can only stare at it and laugh at the Universe's sense of humor.
As per usual, it plays tricks on me. Never knew it had card tricks up its sleeve, tho 😆
